Well sorry for the delay, but here's the updates.

The old motor
355.
performer RPM cam
Performer intake
202/160 camel hump heads all re done with some good machine work and helios.
scat crank
ARP hardware
1.6 crane rockers
short w/p
gear drive (decided to try one out)
blueprinted and balanced
felpro gasket kit
and never finished the build & lost the rest of the pic lol

New motor 2004 5.3 vortec with 90k miles and a good dust coat from cleaning the garage...

Half the stuff i removed

The cathedrals lol

As it sits right now (a bit frosty and dusty still but a purple power bath will clean it back up)

Now for the parts i got so far
early LS1 cam *specs* 202/210 int/exh @ 0.05" duration
0.496" / 0.496" int/exh lift
116 LSA

LS2 vette oil pan setup for ground clearance

LS2 Intake 0 miles crate motor pull off

LS2 fuel rail 0 miles crate motor pull off

LS2 intake to LS1 TBody adapter

78mm DBW LS1 Tbody 50k miles

It all assembled!

-Currently waiting my LS2 timing chain (a great 40$ upgrade for the higher RPMS it will see)
and my LS2 oil pan gasket

-Still need to get.
some F body 98-99 manifolds yet Like a needle in a hay stack i swear!!!
LS2 w/p *vette*
LS2 p/s *vette*
LS2 front assembly/brackets/tensors
LS2 alt and high mount brackets
A/c High mount brackets
New sensors
Current performance polly mounts
and a few other things.

Thats just the motor and will set down 330whp with a tune (A guy on v8s10.org has a similar motor build to a NV3500)

Heres some of the updates on the frame

Rear shock mounts

Sand blasted 7.5 rear end (got an 8.8 i'm building but that's on hold till this thing runs!)

In etching primer

Rear shocks mounted

Front shocks (tac up and mock up)

Lift

Turning radius

Laid out

More etching primer! and finished front shocks

Drag plates along the frame

Front clip sand blasted

Back half sand blasted

MORE etching primer lol

I get full lift up front and about .5" short of that in the back but this was tested all without the new motor in place so might have to use shorter shocks for exhaust clearance.

I also started fixing the front horn, I didn't weld a bar to them when i cut them off so needless to say I lost some core support adjustment. Aka the hood lines up a bit off....

Once i get my new motor mounts and notch the frame for the oil pan it will be painted.

As for the body!!!
Here he lays Very Happy

Didn't have the money for a storage unit this year so it got the wood shed Crying or Very sad

My cab floor! *needs more welding yet but wanted it sealed for winter!* (i added a bar across the bottom to get more strength to it)

Kinda over notched for the drive shaft in the back Rolling Eyes

BYE BYE RUST!

pass side floor (not done yet)

Drivers side floor *was to rusted for my liking*(not done yet)

Before any of the most of the floor work!

And that's all i got done in 2.5yrs lol for 1.5yrs i was working 72 +hrs a week out of state only home for 1 week a month and then i got laid off of work and went broke! lol I did get the almost all of the hombre front end as well! paid $125 for the hood, fenders, core support and a set of headlights and turns. Then found an ad on craigslist for a set of perfect headlights/turns and adjusters for $125 shipped!!! didn't bother getting a bumper and grill yet as there easy to come by.

Oh and now i got a 96 CBR 600 and a 94 4x4 s10 daily and I'm debt free as of last week. So back to the build!!!

Well did some minor work on the motor, As i'm still collecting parts I can't "complete" it yet. So today I decided to put on the oil pan as the gasket finally came in.

OEM GM gasket

The bottom end with the old 5.3 truck sludge tray and pickup removed.( I lost the other 2 pics of the oil pan on, and just the tray and pickup tube)

The LS2 vette sludge tray and pick up installed

New oil pan height! Hanging below the frame shouldn't be an issue any more Cool

Top view of the finished product.

Old stuff ready for scrap!

The swap was simple and everything was bolt in. Only thing i was slightly unsure of was where to RTV. As i read you can apply the gasket dry, just RTV the corners, RTV the front and back and last but not least ppl have claimed to RTV'd the whole thing like on a SBC. When i removed the old pan there was NO trace of any kind of sealant in and special spots. So i went and RTV'd just where the front and back cases meet the block. If it does leak I'll just have to pull it and reseal it no big really.

I'll be test fitting the motor monday/tuesday which ever day my poly mounts arrive. So i'll update more then.

Nate.

Well did the last bit of sandblasting today and priming as it was above 50 today. Going to test fit the motor hopefully this weekend and have the frame painted after any notching is done.
Time for the pics!

RIGHT! thats the plan lol I got my Poly mounts today also! and manifolds are in the mail. Once i get my money for the motor cycle which will be 1,600$ it will have all the parts to run! and a lil extra for my spending! lol

So now I just wait till the weekend for the engine placement....

Test fit was canceled today so worked on the motor

Post by 98hombre on Tue Mar 13, 2012 11:07 pm

Started putting more of the motor together as the test fit was canceled. The frames at a guys house who owns a wrecking company so gotta count for things like this lol

Anyways made progress on the motor!

Here's the manifolds i got from Durty (forum member on v8s10)! They need some work but I wasn't finding anything anywhere for 98-99 manifolds....

Intake, T body, fuel rail all torqued down

Passenger side shot of the motor w/manifold

Drivers side shot of the motor w/manifold

Front view shot showing how compact the motor is now!

I also got my napa gold filter on and spark plugs gaped and installed.

New parts I'm waiting on are alt/P steering bracket 81$ shipped (ebay) Dealers wanted 103 with out taxes!!!

re man P/s pump (o'reillys),P/s reservoir, re man Alternator (o'reillys), front timing cover and crank seal, My brother delivers parts for o'reillys so i get a nice discount being direct family  I think all together he said it'd be $200

Still debating what p/s pully to use and I'll get the crank pully when i get the belt tensors and a/c and high mount brackets.

Well did some more work on the motor as it was slow at work and got off early

1st i removed the manifolds and went to town on the block, wiring it down. picking off the rust/dirt and flaking paint. Then soaked it in brake cleaner.

I ground off the bird poop welds and made sure these weren't going to leak (so the beads wider then normal) Drivers manifolds with the O2 re welded as well

pass side manifold re done

Next the painted block

After i let it sit and the manifolds cool from welding i re installed them and cut off more of the drivers side pipe.

Pass side

Front view and showing my next project lol. clean up the heads and timing cover!!!! After the paint cures for a few days that is.

I don't know if you can tell or not but my welds are not very smooth flow as my welding helmet is in need of replacing  You've served me well my 10$ narrow window non auto tinting helmet!!! Just time to upgrade i guess

I still need to clear the engine (1st time trying the clear coat), and clean it up some more as i wait for my accessories to arrive and the test fit.
