Underslung Hombre Clone

Post by Undrslng_Hombre on Tue Oct 27, 2009 2:56 pm

Well this is my project. I have had it for a little over a year now. It started life as a 94 Sonoma. 2.2 manual 5 speed.

Stock:

Tore it all apart the first week i had it. Got the frame sanblasted and started drawing up ideas. After some design time i went with a 2x4 undeslung rear clip and link that i built myself. Then trad bd (regret, should have SF) 3.25 inches. Took it to its first show (Custom Rides for Saving Lives 5) and won best engineered. Durring that time i also found a set of isuzu Hombre headlights. Also found a whole front clip.

This is kinda what it looked like at CRFSL 5:

Now it is completly torn down and frame is painted. Added a lot of stuff since those pics aswell:

Panhard:

"Coffin" to tie the upper bag mounts together:

Then I sand blasted the frame and parts 1 final time before some paint:

Painted:

So thats where I sit as of now. 2.2 is bored .30 over and is gettin completly rebuilt this winter.

Comments are welcomed! Very Happy

Haha, i only know of 2 other underslung trucks with underslung links.

It has 20s right now. The biggest i can run is a 20 up front without putting a 25 series on a 22. Back may get 22's or 20's with a really wide tire. I scooted the cab back 7/8 of an inch to center me front wheels in the wheel arches whel layed out. So 20's are pretty close to commin out of the hood already.

Frame horn tacks broke on the way home from CRFSL Mad

i think their is a full size x cab done like this... im not 100% sure but i thought i read an article with it done and he said the lift was only like 14'' on 22's but it rode pretty good due to he had a canti set up on it like i said not 100% sure if it was the same set up or something close to it

Well, the way i designed the frame and link setup. THe only thing sticking out of the bed will be the axle tubes and the pumpkin with a stock un moddified bed. My link and all my air managment is under the bed. I will have a 3 gallon 2 port in the bed for a little extra air. Maybe just keep my single 5 and get an EDC.

As far as lift goes. HUGE rear lift in my mind is just plain retarded. With a properly setup shock system, your shocks will max out way before your bags are fully extended with a levered setup. I get a good 7.5 inches of lift before my shocks max out. Without shocks i could get 8.5 inches before my axle woudl hit the frame.

Sounds a little better, I hear ya on the lift. I think once its bagged it should be as low as humanly possible. JIMMY
