Deep Pockets

Post by no_luck on Wed May 13, 2009 10:08 pm

So today I looked at my bank account, and was a lil confused on where all my cash went that I had originally been saving to buy a house n move out of the parents house. Yes I still live with the parents and here is one a reason; Just adding up everything I put into the dime this winter is crazy, First I spent around 3 grand on my air ride, had to get the 5 link half back with everything, also powdercoated green! so there went roughly 3 grand.... no biggie right, the truck needed bagged! so once the truck was bagged i had this huge whole in the bed, and...well it just didnt look right, not to mention the dimes inside of the bed was still white wile the rest of the truck was black n green... so here come the tubs, get them all in n smooth, and in the process decided to blast the underside of my bed, coat it, then put 2 coats of bed linner on the whole under side of the bed....witch is sick! also ended up spraying inside the bed and gettign the notch cover air brushed. ok, that came to about 1600... a lil pricy sence i still live with the rents, work wont let me work on my truck at work, so I had to have a friend do it....wich gave me a good deal for the most part. Then everything on the truck matched except the interior, and I couldnt roll another summer with the gray interior so i had to get that done, and the bench came out sick, but the rest is so-so sence i had allready painted the trim, and put the steeringwheel in the interior ran to some wear inbetween 1,000 and 1500 but who is counting? so i get all that done...i look at my 18's then at my income tax return...and well went n spent another 1600 on wheels n tires.... so just in this winter I spent roughly around $8000 on my $3000 96 s-10..... So I'm not sure if i'm crazy or just down to the bone in love with my truck, but its my life, I work my ass off every day n watched almost a years worth of labor get dumped into my dime!! So needless to say I'm still not satisfied, but Next winter should be interesting, hopefully I have my own garage to do my next big plan... Sorry for the length but i thought it was a good lil story, next year I will write up the novel Wink
any one els got deep pockets?

lol yup, Roughly $1500 into Air ride now, gonna be $2000 in paint when I go to get it done, Rims only $250 for the set, Tires $390, $600 in reserved Hotels/Camp sites for the season, Rear Main Seal (lol when it breaks just leaking now) repair. Money lost in the $4000 range when my engine/trans + 4 link stolen, so my pockets aren't deep ne more.

Heard that. I've put tons of money into my truck. Almost costing me my relationship with my lady. Now it's to the point where I am happy with they way it looks so I can calm down with the spending. Still have things I want but Can deal with what I got. Try doing all that while you own a house. Thats why she was so pissed.

yeah I told my lady I have to hurry up and get mine finished before the baby gets here. She said "No you don't, you can still work on it when baby is here, and spend money on it". She said the last thing that she is letting me do is sell it. So I have a keeper for sure!! Although I knew that when she went outside one day and started wrenchin on the car with me

LOL Here it goes..

Bought the truck for: $4,500
Bagged first time around: $2,700 (just parts, I did myself)
Metal for z'in the frame: $100 (my dad is a steel warehouseman)
Tubing: $300 (DOM)
Tube Bender: $2,600 (I bought it for my bf, so we could build my backhalf and custom build my control arms)
24's and tires: $2,100
New "monster" notch for my 24's: $100 (FBI)
350sb: $250 (still have to build it)
Power windows: $50 (wrecking yard)
Fuel Cell: $175 (Summit)
Grill: $99 (FBI)
HID Headlights: $160 (Kit-FBI)
Primer & Supplies/Bondo: $200
Plasma Cutter: $1,000 (another present for the bf)
Visor TV's: $100
In dash/system (2 10's, box/amp, mids/highs/amp): $400

I think that so far sums up my list.. I'm sure I'm forgetting something.. lol
All I have to say is WORTH EVERY GODDAMN PENNY!!!! lol...

And I know what you mean about the house fund, but right now I'm being really strict with myself. I have $13,000 in my savings right now for a house fund and its SOOOOOO extremely hard not to spend it on my truck. But I'm just waiting on the bank for my house.. so yeah.. lol

I just peice part mine together when I can find the time to undertake a project. We all know, there are always things to do on our trucks, mine just has a longer list than most..LOL
But I am in no hurry to build it and I can drive it to local shows as she sits right now without being too embarassed. I try and spend money on tools that will help me do what I want to get done on the truck, in essence, trying to be cheap and do it all myself! So that really is the expensive stuff, at least to me. You can look at Stina's list above and see what I mean. The trick is to spread it out over a period of time to help reduce the financial impact. that keeps my wife happy, though I just spent a little less than 200 on some spindels and she gave me the unhappy face, so i am pushing my luck right now! I'll give her a couple months and piss her off again somehow, lol!

LOL @ Sundown..
Yeah my whole list has been spread out pretty much to minimize the financial impact.. But let me be the first to say it is 100% easier when yourself and your partner are INTO the scene lol... makes things so much easier. Smile

I have been building mine for the last 9 years and have dropped tons on it..the biggest headache was re-doing the first bag job i did on it..I think a lot of us have been thru that..lol
paid 15,000 for the truck new off the lot I am on my 4th set of wheels so around 4200 in wheels over the build...I would say between the 1st bag job and redoing it I have 3800 in the bags...at least 500 in steel, weld wire and sawzall blades and 2-300 on body work supplies...

i'd say i have somewhere between $7000-$8000 in my truck, including the cost of the truck. i'm pretty damn cheap though, so i think it could have been a lot worse.
